Banaag in the local dialect means flame. Anilao once had a lighthouse on the coastline to help guide fishermen into shore. This year Anilao is celebrating their 75th Anniversary of Independence, the Diamond Jubilee.
While the festival started on Sunday evening with a short downpour, the weather didn't soak anyone’s spirit. The different tribes within the municipality had beautifully choreographed dances. Since this festival is celebrating light the parade takes place at night. Each tribe uses lights within their costumes along with torches. It was such a wonderful sight.
